MULTIPLES

                           


                          SCULPTURE ONE: MULTIPLES, CRITIQUE: NOVEMBER 1



September 27th :  Presentation of Artists who use multiples in their work. Finish working on Modeling project. 

October 4th: Mold making demo, bring or make simple object and make mold.. WEAR SUITABLE CLOTHING THAT YOU CAN GET PLASTER ON OR BRING SMOCK. Must be draftable in two parts.  No severe undercuts. Send me email with picture if there is a question. Bring computer for research for your project. 

OCTOBER 11, 18, 25: IN CLASS WORK ON PROJECT.

BUY AND BRING: Bring butter knife/ get at thrift store or bring from home. Hardware store or HOME DEPOT: Spackle knife (1”), dust mask and two small buckets (larger size of two choices in paint department).

HOMEWORK: SPEND THREE FULL HOURS. Review image presentation on blogspot. Write about your ideas in stream of consciousness and list form. One full page on lined paper or half a page typed. RESEARCH and include ideas gathered from your research. What artists resonate with you and why? You can ask questions to yourself in this writing. Include links or printed images. Draw out ideas in sketchbook.

Write whatever first comes to mind. Use adjectives. Write your concerns and joys. There should be some kind of conceptual idea behind what you make. Pure aesthetics can be a part of the subject matter although explain and explore different concepts of beauty: Decorative, simplified form, excessive, minimal , planar, raw, refined etc. What your cultural influences, what cultures and their work can you mine for material and ideas? 

Do you have political, spiritual or environmental, scientific concerns and/or interests? How can you express that and what will your subject matter be? Will the human form be used and in what way?

Will your sculpture combine found and created objects? Must incorporate mold making. 
Can you envision your placement and eye level? What will the context be in which you show the work?
